ABOUT THE ITF
The International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) was founded on 22 March 1966 by General Choi Hong-Hi in Seoul, Korea, as the first global governing body for Taekwon-Do. Its creation marked the unification of practitioners and organisations from around the world under one standard of technique, philosophy, and discipline.
The ITF is dedicated to preserving and promoting the original style of Taekwon-Do, as developed by General Choi, while ensuring the art continues to evolve for modern practitioners. Guided by the five tenets — Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit — the ITF emphasises not only physical skill but also the moral and ethical development of its members.
Today, the ITF operates in over 100 countries, overseeing national associations, grading standards, instructor certifications, seminars, and world-class competitions. Its mission is to maintain the technical purity of Taekwon-Do, promote friendship and cooperation between nations, and inspire practitioners to live by the values of the art both inside and outside the dojang.
